The Syrian Future Movement views Presidential Decrees No. 20 of 2025, concerning the formation of the National Commission for Transitional Justice, and No. 19 of 2025, concerning the establishment of the National Commission for the Missing, as an important step toward addressing the legacy of the past and the grave violations Syrians have endured over many years. We believe that if these commissions are indeed formed based on the principles of justice and integrity, they could represent a real turning point toward building a Syria founded on the rule of law and national reconciliation.<\/p>\n
The Syrian Future Movement affirms that transitional justice is a political and societal process that requires the participation of all active forces, foremost among them the victims, their families, and human rights organizations, to ensure the goals of justice, accountability, and reparation are achieved. We believe their success depends on their ability to operate independently, as stipulated, free from any political or security interference that could strip them of their essence.<\/p>\n
The Syrian Future Movement considers the formation of the National Commission for the Missing a step in the right direction toward uncovering the fate of thousands of Syrians who went missing during past conflicts and events. This is a recommendation we made in a study published on our official website titled: “Syria After 100 Days of Bashar al-Assad\u2019s Fall: A Reading of the Political and Social Reality.” Ensuring that this commission operates transparently, adheres to accurate documentation practices, and establishes a national database is a fundamental pillar for achieving justice for the victims and alleviating the suffering of their families.<\/p>\n
The Syrian Future Movement believes that any efforts made in the framework of transitional justice and truth-seeking must be accompanied by guarantees to prevent the recurrence of violations, through reforming state institutions and holding accountable those responsible for crimes that caused the suffering of Syrians.<\/p>\n
The Syrian Future Movement emphasizes that the fate of these commissions will depend on their commitment to transparency and independence, as well as their openness to the participation of legal and civil actors in their operations.<\/p>\n
The Syrian Future Movement calls on all Syrians, including political and societal forces, to monitor the work of these commissions to ensure the execution of their mandates away from political polarization.
