On the Phenomenon of Cutting Trees for Heating

As winter approaches, we have recently witnessed a concerning rise in the phenomenon of randomly cutting trees to use as fuel for heating in various Syrian regions.

While we understand citizens’ struggles with rising costs of traditional energy sources, we caution against the serious environmental and generational risks of these practices. Therefore:

The Syrian Future Movement warns of the dangers of tree cutting, which leads to forest destruction, biodiversity decline, increased climate change effects, and loss of soil fertility. Cutting trees also raises greenhouse gas levels in the atmosphere.

The Syrian Future Movement emphasizes the importance of forests as habitats for many living organisms and stresses that cutting them destroys these habitats, reducing wildlife and plant populations.

The Syrian Future Movement calls on local authorities to promote the use of renewable energy sources, such as solar and bioenergy, for heating.

The Syrian Future Movement highlights the need to provide financial support to citizens to help cover the costs of heating their homes with clean energy sources.

The Syrian Future Movement seeks to launch extensive awareness campaigns to emphasize the importance of forest conservation and to promote the use of renewable energy sources, calling for greater involvement in awareness initiatives.

The Syrian Future Movement supports local authorities in offering assistance plans to citizens for heating, enforcing strict monitoring of tree cutting, and imposing stringent penalties on violators.

The Syrian Future Movement calls on all concerned parties to collaborate in finding sustainable solutions to the energy crisis while protecting forests and preserving the environment, ensuring the right of all citizens to access safe and affordable heating.

The Syrian Future Movement advocates for a nationwide reforestation plan for all forest areas, positioning it as a national project beyond political differences and conflicts among Syrians.

Together, we protect our environment and ensure a better future for generations to come.
