Response to the Statement of the Islamic Tawhid Party on the Killing of the Detained Bishops

In response to the second paragraph of Statement No. 9 issued by the Islamic Tawhid Party on 2013/05/16, which called for applying Sharia law to the two Christian bishops, we suffice by reiterating what we previously published on this matter through the statement of the Syrian Future Movement’s Political Office on 2013/05/02, the statement of the Syrian Future Movement’s Religious Office on 2013/05/02, and the visual directive through a video published on YouTube on 2013/05/02.

While the Islamic Tawhid Party calls for an in-depth reading of the Quranic verses mentioned in its statement, we urge the party to also correct the two verses it referenced. In the first and second verses, “an” should be “in,” and in the second verse, “laqad kafaru” should be “laqad kafara.”

We call for the immediate and unconditional release of the two honorable bishops and for awareness of the dangers of playing the card of religious or sectarian conflict under the pretext of minority and majority in Syria, especially in this critical and sensitive phase.
