On the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People
In 1977, the General Assembly called for the annual observance of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People on November 29 (Resolution 32/40 B). Additionally, through Resolution 60/37 on December 1, 2005, the General Assembly requested the Committee and Division for Palestinian Rights to organize an annual exhibit on Palestinian rights in cooperation with the Permanent Mission of Palestine to the United Nations as part of the day’s observance. It also encouraged member states to provide the widest possible support and media coverage for the Solidarity Day.
In 2015, the Palestinian flag was raised for the first time at United Nations headquarters and offices worldwide. The General Assembly had adopted a resolution allowing the flags of non-member observer states, including Palestine, to be raised at the UN. A flag-raising ceremony was held at the UN headquarters in New York on September 30, 2015.
