Regarding the Statements of Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister and His Official Message to Syria

The Syrian Future Movement, amidst the recent developments on the regional political scene, reaffirms its firm stance in support of the course adopted by the new Syrian government, which seeks to make Syria a center of geopolitical balance rather than a battlefield for regional conflicts.

The Syrian Future Movement welcomes the official statement issued by Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Mr. Saeed Khatibzadeh, in which he declared his country’s readiness to support and assist the new Syrian government. We consider this statement a positive step toward enhancing regional stability, and we hope that this support translates into concrete actions that contribute to building a new and stable Syria.

The Syrian Future Movement views this Iranian statement as one of the outcomes of the honorable Syrian Minister of Culture’s visit to the Maqam of Sayyida Zaynab in Damascus and the shrine of the scholar Mohsen Al-Amin on 2025-04-17, on the occasion of Evacuation Day. It is also tied to the Minister’s visit to Farhan Al-Marsoumi’s guest house on the same date, which sparked wide controversy but underscores the importance of dialogue and openness despite the criticism it faced. Additionally, the recent Saudi-Iranian meeting — represented by the visit of Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman to Tehran — marks the highest-level visit by a Saudi official to Iran since 1997. This visit reinforces efforts to strengthen bilateral relations and discuss issues of mutual concern, including regional cooperation and support for peace and stability.

The Syrian Future Movement emphasizes that Iran’s support for Syria at this stage should be reflected in:

  1. Refraining from any support for chaos or armed groups.
  2. Contributing to reconstruction and economic development.
  3. Promoting national dialogue among all Syrian parties.

The Syrian Future Movement had previously presented a detailed vision through a study by its Research and Studies Department, titled: “Iran and the Option of ‘Reducing Hostility’ Toward the Syrian Opposition”, which outlined its perspective on easing tensions with Iran — even prior to Assad’s fall. Accordingly, we believe these steps are the optimal path toward achieving stability and development in Syria, and we call on all national, regional, and international parties to support this constructive course.
