Medal of the (SFM)Media Office

Honored Number (13) Fadwa Sulaiman, the revolutionary artist

Fadwa Sulaiman, was born on May 17, 1970.
She graduated from the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts in Damascus and took a theater directing course in France. She participated in theatrical, acting, and voice-over works, including the play “Safar Barlek,” the film “Naseem Al-Rooh,” and the series “Al-Shaqiqat” and “Hawa Bahr.” She also worked on other radio and dubbing projects.

She wrote a theatrical text translated into French titled “The Crossing,” published by Lansman Editeur in 2012, and a poetry collection titled “Whenever the Moon is Full,” published by Dar Al Ghawoon in Arabic in 2013, which was translated into French and published by Dar Soureyah.

Sulaiman participated in numerous international and global festivals such as the Avignon Festival, the Limoges Festival, and the Spring of Poets Festival.

She joined the Syrian revolution in its first year, refusing to describe the Syrian revolution as sectarian, stating that the Syrian regime was the sectarian one, and that dictatorship has no religion or sect.

As her popularity rose, the Syrian regime pursued her, forcing her to cut her hair and go into hiding.
In 2012, the Syrian intelligence searched the neighborhoods of Homs city for her.

The Syrian regime pressured her family to disown her, as she was from the Alawite sect, and her presence within the ranks of the Syrian opposition was not in its favor.

She crossed the border on foot to Jordan before settling in France and struggled with cancer in her final years.

The artist and Syrian opposition figure Fadwa Sulaiman passed away on Thursday, August 17, 2017, after a battle with the disease in France.
Condolences were issued in her memory, recognizing her as the free, revolutionary artist and one of the symbols of the Syrian revolution.

As the Syrian Future Movement (SFM), in recognition of her standing with her people in their revolution against injustice and tyranny, and in gratitude to the great and free Syrian figures, We present the Syrian Future Movement this week to the revolutionary artist “Fadwa Sulaiman,” a symbolic Syrian shield that carries our vision and inclusive national approach.
