Regarding the issuance of arrest warrants against officers from Assad’s regime:
The Syrian Future Movement welcomes the issuance of arrest warrants by the French judiciary for four officers affiliated with the Syrian regime. On October 18, 2023, investigating judges in the War Crimes Unit in France issued four international arrest warrants against four high-ranking officers in the Syrian regime’s forces. They are accused of complicity and committing war crimes by “deliberately directing attacks against civilians as such, or against civilians who are not directly participating in hostilities” and “deliberately directing attacks against civilian objects that are not military objectives” by bombing them with explosive barrels in a helicopter attack on June 7, 2017. This led to the killing of the French-Syrian citizen Salah Abu Nabut as a result of the bombing of his house, which was used as a school by a humanitarian organization in the “Tariq Al-Sadd” district in the city of Daraa.
The Syrian Future Movement believes that legal action is one of the most effective and important revolutionary efforts, which it encourages and supports.
The Syrian Future Movement sees the need to focus on turning to international courts and tribunals to issue similar arrest warrants and convictions against all those proven to be involved in killing and torture. We also hope that the Syrians themselves have a free and fair judiciary to pursue all the criminals who have shed Syrian blood excessively.
The Syrian Future Movement salutes all the tremendous and accumulated efforts of human rights activists and lawyers who have reached this advanced stage and calls on them to continue pursuing the Syrian regime until it is brought to justice and receives the punishment for the massacres and tragedies it has inflicted on the Syrian people.
