The 12th Anniversary the Founding of the Syrian Future Movement
The president of Syrian Future Movement
Dr. Zaher Baadarani
12 Years for Syria:
Twelve years ago, the Syrian Future Movement was born out of a revolution that carried the pain and hopes of Syrians for change after the Assad regime, both father and son, stifled political life, shutting every door to genuine change.
In a scene where reform was suffocated, reformists were persecuted, and freedoms were suppressed.
The 2011 revolution was a moment of explosion by the people against a system of oppression, brutality, manipulation, and deceit—a system that falsified and buried truths, as well as those who attempted to revive or shed light on them.
It was a popular movement that represented all Syrians, regardless of their backgrounds and affiliations. Simultaneously, the opposition elites took the lead on the political stage, consolidating efforts to openly confront the single-party policies and one-leader regime.
The goal of the Syrian revolution was never to destroy state institutions but rather to liberate them from the grip of tyranny, allowing the establishment of a democratic state rooted in freedom and justice, a safe haven for all Syrians without exception.
With this aim, we founded the Syrian Future Movement as a framework that embodies the aspirations of the people, striving to build a free, democratic Syria that accommodates everyone, far from abhorrent sectarianism, destructive bigotry, oppressive tribalism, or foreign occupations.
The Syrian Future Movement was established 12 years ago as a result of a gathering of Syrian intellectuals and activists in early 2012. We developed a clear vision to create a political movement that adapts to the complexities of the time, seeks the welfare of the nation, understands priorities, aims for well-being, and plans for Syria’s future, inspired by its deep-rooted history and the trust of its noble people, in a fair and competitive environment that draws strength solely from the people.
The Syrian Future Movement was officially established on November 13, 2012, at precisely 15:54:18.
Over these twelve years, the Syrian Future Movement has grown and expanded, rooted in the spirit of the revolution and armed with a steadfast popular will that continues to guide, inspire, and correct its path.
Brothers and sisters, dear members of our beloved nation, the Syrian Future Movement is a strategic vision dedicated to achieving a democratic, civil state that reflects the aspirations of our free and revolutionary Syrian people.
A state where justice and equality are realized for all citizens, where the president serves the people through an elected parliament, without sanctity or oppression.
Our vision for the state includes freeing it from any factional affiliations, with the three branches of government—the executive, legislative, and judicial—fully subordinate to the people’s will, free from both internal and external guardianship. To us, the state is an entity that belongs to all Syrians, not just one group, and national unity is the key to independent national decision-making and societal stability.
Despite the challenges it entails, the diversity of political parties and movements is essential for building a balanced society, and stability can only be achieved through the integration, solidarity, and cooperation of these movements and societal forces within a healthy and transparent framework.
We are committed to dialogue with various parties based on a shared national partnership, aiming to establish a national accord document as a foundation for achieving lasting civil peace and lifting Syria from the rubble of war and seized sovereignty.
Our priorities in the Syrian Future Movement include empowering Syrians, men and women, to build a society that promotes the values of coexistence, peace, goodness, and harmony, caring for children and empowering youth, and enhancing their role in building Syria’s future.
We have worked on educational initiatives and empowerment programs within Syria through the Capacity Building and Self-Development Section of the Syrian Future Movement’s Scientific Office, focusing on supporting youth, orphans, and those affected by war and displacement, providing them with opportunities to build their future with dignity, far from reliance on temporary relief.
The Syrian Future Movement seeks cooperation with the international community, working diligently to develop constructive relations with sister and friendly countries, especially neighboring nations. We strive to enhance our position as an independent national political movement, free from conditional funding or unacceptable external impositions, upholding the principle of self-sufficiency to ensure our independence and freedom in decision-making, convinced that self-reliance is the only path to true sovereignty.
Our vision for the future extends beyond just building Syria; it also encompasses establishing balanced relations with regional and neighboring countries based on cooperation and mutual respect, supporting regional stability, believing that Syria’s security and stability are integral to the region’s security.
Any disruption in the surrounding area inevitably impacts Syria’s center.
Brothers and sisters, dear members of our beloved people, we are the children of this land, deeply rooted in it, struggling and building despite all difficulties, inviting every Syrian who shares our vision for the future to join our path. We work hand in hand with all sincere national movements, striving diligently and with determination to build the Syria we yearn for, take pride in, and cherish.
In the Syrian Future Movement, we acknowledge the heavy responsibility on the Syrian opposition in the regions liberated from Assad’s regime.
Thus, as a national opposition, we must present a civilized, democratic model that reflects our people’s true aspirations and lays the foundation for an open and transparent administration that serves our citizens at home.
To achieve this, we must unite and cooperate to preserve the achievements of the revolution and protect our areas from sliding into chaos or losing them again.
Our unity is the path to safeguard our accomplishments, especially in light of the new mapping of the Middle East that may affect us as Syrians. Without a unified vision and coordinated efforts, we risk losing what the people sacrificed for—freedom and dignity.
We in the Syrian Future Movement anticipate positive developments on the international stage, especially following President Donald Trump’s and the Republican Party’s success in the U.S. elections, seeing this as an opportunity to reinforce stability and peace in the Arab region, establishing security foundations, and ending conflicts.
We believe it is in the interest of the new U.S. administration to support Middle East stability, uphold the people’s right to self-determination, and support all possible peaceful political solutions to achieve democratic transition in Syria.
For twelve years, we have stood with you and served you, stumbling at times, rising again to see in you and with you the hope for a better tomorrow and a brighter future.
I would like to express my gratitude to the Syrian Future Movement’s cadres, especially those in Syria and beyond, whom we cherish and admire, and see in their dedication a role model for aspiring and determined Syrian youth committed to change and empowerment. You are our partners in success, our pillar of hope, and the path to realizing our dreams for a Syria healed from all that has afflicted it over decades, both before and after the Syrian revolution.
Peace be upon you.
