Syrian Future Movement (SFM) welcomes the decision of the U.S. Treasury on Wednesday, October 16, to include three Syrian individuals on the sanctions list for their involvement in the production and trafficking of Captagon, which benefits Bashar al-Assad’s regime and its allies. The U.S. Department of the Treasury based the new sanctions on Executive Order No. 13572 issued on April 29, 2011, regarding the blocking of properties of certain individuals due to human rights violations in Syria, and Executive Order No. 13582 issued on August 17, 2011, related to the “blocking of properties of the Syrian government and prohibiting certain transactions concerning Syria.” This also includes the “Caesar Act for the Protection of Syrian Civilians,” which was issued in 2019. These measures were also taken to support the objectives of the “Law to Combat the Illicit Trafficking of Captagon.”
