Podcast of SFM (23): The Concept of the State from the SFM’s Perspective (3)
- The primary characteristics of the state we
strive for and aspire to should not be military,
coup-based, dictatorial, or security-oriented,
nor a theocratic state ruled by clergy through
crescent or cross. Instead, it should be a
modern, civil state. - The foundation of the state lies in the
people’s choice of its authorities and
institutions through free elections and
voting. - The state must be sovereign and
independent on its land, free from any
external interference or manipulation, and
independent of non-governmental actors and
social groups within the country. - Pluralism is essential for the establishment
of the state, allowing for multiple political
forces and the peaceful transfer of power
without the monopoly of a single political
force or a leading party. - Recognizing the opposition is a
fundamental characteristic that has been
absent from the Syrian political reality for
decades.
