On the demands of the revolutionary street in northern Syria

The treatment of Syrians in Turkey has changed in the recent period, with numerous cumulative events contributing to a shift in the Syrian mood in the north, resulting in uncontrolled protests and negative transgressions following the events in Kayseri, Turkey. Since the forced deportations of Syrians and the legal and social restrictions placed on them, up to the moment when Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced the possibility of normalization and the invitation of Bashar al-Assad, accompanied by a targeted and calculated media campaign by the Syrian regime’s media suggesting the imminent handover of opposition members and areas to the Syrian regime, and finally the fall of martyrs and injured in the north after the recent unrest, along with lurking threats from Hayat Tahrir al-Sham and the Syrian Democratic Forces, all these factors necessitated a new reading and a different approach. We began to see the early signs of this in the attempt to unify the revolutionary street under the “Dignity Sit-in” movement, using the term “Ahrar Suwayda” for the Dignity Square, indicating a single revolutionary popular extension.

Ultimately, what was called the (demands of the revolutionary street) in northern Syria was issued. Therefore, we announce our position on these demands to our people and to history:

The Syrian Future Movement (SFM) supports our Syrian people’s movement in the north and endorses the “Dignity Sit-in” and the attempt to organize ranks and restore legitimacy to the internal authority.

The Syrian Future Movement (SFM) adopts the demands of the revolutionary street, especially concerning the opening of a judicial investigation into the shooting incidents, holding the perpetrators accountable, and compensating the affected.

The Syrian Future Movement (SFM) stands with the demand to reject Turkish normalization with the Syrian regime, considering it an internal Turkish matter that does not concern us. Accordingly, we demand the opening of opposition offices in a location outside Turkey while maintaining alliance and friendship relations and the necessity of their continuation with Turkey on the basis of mutual interests and shared destiny and history. We also emphasize the need to regulate the operation of Turkish military bases in northern Syria in a way that prevents them from intervening and controlling the management of the area. Therefore, we reject the attachment of northern Syria to the Turkish governor but insist it should follow the interim government that deals with the Turkish Foreign Ministry and whoever needs to be dealt with on an equal basis.

The Syrian Future Movement (SFM) supports the political and civil society movements in Turkey to protect Syrians from Turkish racists and strives to further strengthen the relationship between us because racism and negative treatment of Syrian refugees will be detrimental to Turks before Syrians.

The Syrian Future Movement (SFM) rejects the revolutionary street’s demand to abolish opposition institutions such as the Coalition and the interim government, as the Movement believes in the necessity of abandoning the “demolition” mentality known to the Syrian mindset. Instead, we call for the reform of these institutions, considering them the property of the Syrian people and one of the outcomes of their sacrifices. This necessitates protecting these institutions and maintaining their genuine revolutionary representation. Thus, we support the idea of forming a supreme body to lead the revolution but to reform the course of opposition institutions, not to demolish them and start anew.

The Syrian Future Movement (SFM) views the Dignity Sit-in in northern Syria with great optimism and warns against its hijacking. We emphasize the need for extreme vigilance against any attempt to circumvent our people’s demands and interests.
